FROYLE (UPPER and LOWER) is a parish 3 miles west from Bentley Station,
6 south-west from Farnham station, 46 from London, 3¼ north-west
from Alton and 20¼ from Winchester in Alton hundred, county
court district, division and union, North Hants, diocese and archdeaconry
of Winchester, and deanery of Alton, western division. The River Wey
runs through the parish. The living is a discharged vicarage, value
£254, with residence, in the gift of the Rev. Sir Thomas Combe
Miller Bart., M.A., who is the incumbent; the Rev. Peter Aubertin
is the curate.
The church of St. Mary is a neat structure, with a square tower, clock
and six bells. It was rebuilt in 1812, and the fine chancel was restored
in 1847.Three children of this parish are entitled to partake of the
benefit of education at the Endowed Grammar school, Holybourne; the
Rev. Sir Thomas Combe Miller; Bart., who is lord of the manor, has
a seat here. The population in 1851 was 826; the acreage: 3618.
