Bridge House 1998

The left hand picture was taken, we believe, in the 1930s - the right hand one was taken on January 1st 1998.
  • Bridge House is no longer a shop (you can see the shop entrance on the right hand end of the building).

There are, however, few changes to the surroundings.

  • The road has been surfaced.
  • White lines have been painted.
  • Quite a few more trees have grown up.

The house was Grade 2 Listed in May 1985. English Heritage gives the following information:-
Bridge House GV II House. C17, late C18,with C20 restoration and extension. Stone and roughcast walls, with a tiled roof. Corner house, of timber-framed origin, re-faced. West elevation (to the Lane) of 2 storeys, 2 above 1 window. ½-hipped roof, shafted stack. Walls of coursed chalkstone with brick dressings (all painted), plinth. Casements, one ground floor C20 rectangular bay with a tiled roof. Stone plaque inscribed KEL 1712. The south gable has roughcast walls and is tiled in its upper part; rear extensions (C20) incorporate the entrance. Inside, there are remains of the timber frame.
