Bee-fly – Bombylius major A Bumblebee lookalike which visits gardens but this time it’s a fly. It hovers whilst taking nectar from spring flowers such as Primroses and Violets via its very long proboscis. Its larvae are parasitic and eat the pollen stores and grubs of Solitary bees. It is harmless to us despite its looks. Another quick mover! |
