Transcription of the will of John Vicary, 9 Nov 1587 In the name of God Amen: The Ninth daye of November in the yeare of our Lorde God a thousande five hundred fower score and seaven, I John Vicary of Froyle of the dioces of Winton in the countie of South[ampton] husbandman beinge sicke in bodie but of perfect remembraunce thankes be unto almightie God doe make institute and ordeine this my last will and testament in mann[er] and fourme followinge, That is to saye First I geve and bequeath my soule unto Almightie God my maker and redeemer and my bodye to be buried w[i]thin the Churchyearde of Froyle towardes the maintenaunce of the Church of Froyle I geve and bequeath xij d It[e]m I geve towards the maintenaunce of the Churche of South Warneborow xij d It[e]m I geve to the poore mans boxe of Froile xij d It[e]m I will that two busshels of wheate be baked and equally devided betweene the poore of Froyle and South Warnborow im[m]ediatelie after my decease, It[e]m I geve and bequeath unto my lovinge wife all the yeares w[hi]ch are to come and unexpired of my lease of my house called Banberies w[i]th all the landes thereunto apperteininge to be had and holden to her or her assignes duringe her life and after her decease such years as shalbe unexpired of and in the said lease I geve and bequeath amongest all my children to be to their benefitt imployed by by trustie and welbeloved brother in lawe Frauncis Knight with the helpe of my overseers It[e]m I geve and bequeath unto every of my children John, Henry, Elline, James, Thomas, Johan and Avice sixe poundes thirteene shillinges and fower pence a peece to be to every of them paied when they shalbe twentie yeares olde or at their daie of marriage w[hi]ch of them shall first happen, but if any of my children die before they be xx yeares old or be married then the porc[i]on to the deceased bequeathed I will to remaine equally amongest the rest livinge The rest of my gooddes not before geven and bequeathed my debtes paied and funerall expences discharged I geve and bequeath unto Alice my lovinge wife whom I make and appoint to be the executrix of this my last will and testament And I doe hartelie praye my trustie and welbeloved in Christ Frauncis Knight Jerom Vicary Richard Ware and Henry Vicary to be the supervisors of this my testament and I geve unto every of them in hope they will see this my last will performed accordinge to the trew meaninge thereof one sheep Theese bearinge witnes John Knight Frauncis Knight Richard Ware and John Forder |
Translation of the probate
This will was proved in common form by master William Say, official of the lord archdeacon of Winchester, on the ninth day of December A.D. 1587, and the administration of the goods, etc, was committed to the executrix, above-said, sworn to administer well, etc, saving on the oath of whomsoever. |
