Transcription of the will of Henry Warner 1678

Archdeacon’s Will HRO 1679A 151

In the name of God Amen This 20th day of August 1678 according to the Computation of the Church of England I Henry Warner Senior of the Parish of Froyle in the County of Southton husbandman being in perfect memory and remembrance praised be to God for it I do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament in manner and form as following
First I do bequeath my soul in to the hands of Almighty God and Maker hoping that through the meritorious death and passion of Jesus Christ my only Saviour and Redeemer to receive free pardon and forgiveness of all my sins, and as for my body to be buried in Christian Burial at the discretion of my executors after mentioned.
First I do make my wife Elizabeth Warner, and my son William Warner both of them my whole executors of all my goods both within doors and without doors, and they to pay all legacies as shall be mentioned for this my last will and Testament

First I do give and bequeath to my son Thomas Warner Twelve pounds I do also give to my daughter Em Warner the sum of forty pounds, and I do also give to my daughter Elizabeth Warner the sum of forty pounds, and to be paid them in six on six months after my decease, and I do also give to my son Thomas his children: as by their names of them the first is John Warner, the second is Thomas Warner of my son Thomas Warner, the third is Henry Warner of my son Thomas Warner. Those three boys I do give them five shillings apiece.

Be it known also that I did lend also in money from John Warner the sum of fourteen pound and ten shillings at the 20th of April 1678 and of this money I do give to my grandchildren of my son John Warner the eldest is Elizabeth Warner and the youngest is John Warner: I do give each of these two grandchildren five pounds apiece In case they do live so long at twenty years of age and then receive each of them their legacies which is five pounds apiece, and my son John Warner or his wife is to answer to the executors four pounds and ten shillings into their hands again, and also provide that if these children should die before twenty years of age the money is to be returned for anyone of their legacies in to the executors hands again.

If those that die and if both do die then both legacies are to be returned into the Executors hands again. Also I do make and ordain to be the Overseers of this my last will and testament John Baldwin and Henry Warner Junior whereunto of this my last will and testament.

I have set my hand and seal this twenty day of August 1678 In the 18th year of our Lord and Sovereign Charles the Second Anno Domini 1678
